What is TRIAD?

TRIAD is a national movement which began in 1988.  A TRIAD represents a three-way partnership among the community's older/retired leaders, it's local chief of police and it's sheriffs to address crime issues which affect the health and safety of older citizens.

The Spotsylvania/Stafford/Fredericksburg TRIAD

The organization is an agreement among the sheriffs of both counties, the City Chief of Police, Virginia State Police, AARP, and the office of the Attorney General.  Many other organizations support TRIAD such as Stafford Victim Witness, Stafford Citizen's Assistance Office, Stafford Social Services, Spotsylvania Victim Witness, Rappahannock Council on Sexual Assault, Rappahannock Area Agency on Aging, Mental Health America of Fredericksburg, Central Rappahannock Regional Library, Adult Protective Services, Parks and Recreation, Virginia Cooperative Service and the American Red Cross - Rappahannock Chapter.

Our Purpose

To develop, expand and implement effective crime prevention and education programs for older community members.  To provide activities which center on prevention of victimization and victim/witness assistance services.

Our Goals

  • Reduce criminal victimization of older persons.
  • Improve quality of life for older residents of the community.
  • Focus on the crime-related needs and concerns of older persons.
  • Involve the community in implementing solutions.
  • Enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to the elderly.

Our Role

We educate...by sponsoring crime prevention and victim/witness programs for older persons.

We assist...by recruiting and training volunteers to assist the law enforcement organizations.

We reach out...by offering older persons helpful programs and service information to reduce fear and give moral support.

We communicate...by providing a forum for the community and law enforcement to share needs and concerns and to seek community-wide solutions.

Mission Statement

The mission of the National Association of TRIADs, Inc. is to improve safety among seniors and reduce criminal victimization of the elderly throughout the United States by providing advice, technical assistance, support and training to local TRIADs.

Because seniors are living longer and more healthy lives, and represent a growing segment of the population, being free from crime and the unwarranted fear of crime is essential to their independence and their quality of life.

Vision Statement

The National Association for TRIADs, Inc. believes that senior safety is a concern for all members of a given community, regardless of race, religious affiliation, or socio-economic status.  Collaboration between law enforcers, senior volunteers, and senior-service and adult protection providers will be achieved through open and honest communication, sharing ideas and good information, and working toward the common good of the elderly.
